The Giant Areva 225 Street is renamed Giant Areva Street 24. This bike has a 3 speed internal hub gear system which will provide a cleaner ride that requires a lot less maintenance that a normal externally geared bike would need. Plus! It's very easy to use. Your child changes gears from the front handlebars just the same as any other bike. It also reduces the chance of damages the gears as even if you drop the bike, the gears won't be touched. With the internal gears, you can also change gears while stationary or moving and avoid that horrible "clacking" sounds some other bikes make when you change gears while you're stationary. The bike has been given the Diamond Shield paint finish which reduces the risk of scratching and chipping so you're bike will still look good when it's time for the next one. The frame is made from aluminium making it light and easy to push. The Giant Xtc 225 is now called Giant Xtc Junior 2. The 2012 Giant XTC Junior is a great bike for your child to use while learning the skill of gears. The frame is very sturdy and has a low standover height to make it easier for your young one to get on. The seat pillar and headstem are both adjustable so you can adjust the bike as your child grows (we all know how fast children can grow around this age). It's important to start teaching children the art of gears on a gradient approach and this bike is perfect. There are only 6 gears to get the hang of (rather than the standard 21 gears) and the bike also has front suspension and V-brakes which make the bike more safe and comfortable. The front suspension reduces the jolting around on bumpy surfaces, so that they maintain better control, and the V brakes offer excellent braking, even when you have small fingers, that aren't very strong. The Xtc is made to ride anywhere, especially around the bike paths, through bush, across parks, over bark... whatever your child feels like doing, your bike can handle it. It's also got a really tough paint finish which makes the bike a lot harder to scratch, and resists fading, so the bike should still be looking new by the time your child grows out of it. The Giant Xtc 225 Street is now called the Giant Xtc Street 24. The Xtc Street has a 3 speed internal gear setup. You might ask what that means. Well, the differences that you need to know of between internal and external gears are as follows; for starters, there's no derailleur on the back to catch the hem of jeans or similar, it's a lot less messy because most of the grease is inside the internal gear hub, it reduces the risk of the gears being damaging when dropped on the ground (not that kids would do that) and the gears are actually in a hub in the centre of the back wheel. Now, that's pretty nifty. And! Your child can change gears when the bike is stationary, unlike other gear systems. This bike doesn't have front suspension but it still withstands all the jumps and off-road riding kids love so you don't need to worry about the bike falling apart on the first jump. There is a bit of a trade off with no suspension, it is certainly a little harsher over rough ground, but it is lighter, and it allows Giant to reduce the height of the frame a little, ideal for smaller kids. The frame is made of aluminium to keep the weight down (and to prevent rust) as are the rimes and most of the parts on the bike. Overall the Street is simple to use and very easy to operate, it is ideal for less experienced, or less confident kids. ....Of course we offer 12 months of free servicing on the bike.
