Silverback Dakota The Silverback Dakota Mountain Bike is a rugged, yet lightweight alloy mountain bike designed for off-road and cross country use. The Dakota runs Shimano Deore componentry from top to bottom, including Deore XT rear derailleur and Shimano's patented Rapidfire shifter system and the ride is softened by top quality Rock Shox Dart 2 Forks. The wheels feature double wall rims (strong without being heavy) and sealed hubs, with the Shimano Hydraulic Disc Brakes putting incredible stopping power in the rider's palm. Add to all that the Silverback Race Light alloy accessories, including seat, handlebars and stem, and you have a mountain bike capable of almost any off road and single track work, while being practical and suprisingly nimble for those sealed sections of the ride.

Mongoose Tyax Super. The bike is fitted with SRAM X-5 shifters and an X-7 rear derailleur. The SRAM shifters and derailleurs have always been popular for off-road riding and give a wide gear range, with good reliable shifting. Another advantage with the SRAM is that it eliminates the rear derailleur chattering as it hits the rear stay.
RockShox make a moderately priced, reliable and relatively light fork. The aluminium crown and magnesium lower legs keep the weight down, To get a high quality hydraulic fork at this price bike, is great. This means you can get adjustable rebound and a hydraulic lock-out, making the bike much better for more aggressive off-road riding. Adjustable rebound allows you to alter the suspension to suit the riding surface. It also has adjustable pre-load so that the fork can be set up to suit individual rider weights.
For a bike under $900 you don't always see hydraulic disc brakes, often having to settle for cable discs. The brakes work well, they have a positive feel and stop the bike very effectively. Maintenance is simple, the pads being easy to replace. The Kenda tyres are fairly aggressive, well matched for where the bike is meant to be ridden, which is a mix of off-road and on-road.
