Ladies Bicycles (or Women's Bikes), Comfort, Hybrid, Giant, GT or Townie.
NEW! Latest 2012 Model2012 Giant Roam XR W Price is just $999 |
There are a large range of female specific bikes available from Giant, as they have been at the forefront of the movement to get more ladies riding bikes, and recognised that in order to succeed they needed to build the bike to suit the lady rather than expect the lady to adapt to the bike. Hybrid bikes have been a staple of the bike market for many years now, evolving into the fairly staid, comfortable style of bike like the Giant Cypress. Fantastic for many people who's comfort is the main buying criteria. But some people want something a bit sportier, but still with 700c wheels for speed and widish tyres for stability. A bike that is pretty fast but is rugged enough to handle some trails and paths. Something like a cross between a Cypress style hybrid and a Cross City style flat bar road bike. But not one that will make them look like a grandma. Giant have recognised the growing interest in this style of bike and for the 2012 range have introduced the Roam range of bikes which will fill this void very nicely. The Roam is a bike that may well spend most of its time on road as a commuting bike, but will prove to be far more comfortable than the low posture positioning required from a road bike and yet not all that much slower. Road bikes are great for speed and distance, but if you like to ride on trails and dirt once in a while, the narrow tyres of a road bike aren't that suitable. Whereas the Roam has the perfect mix of stability, rugged durability, sporty riding position and can even be a bit of fun if you consider that it isn't all that much different from a 29er mountain bike. Just with narrower tyres. Such a versatile bike, the Roam rides well on roads and can take curb jump every now and then as well as some slipping and sliding if you push it hard on the cycle paths. Giant have done a really good job selecting the most suitable components, with 700c wheels and tyres that are wide enough with some tread for average trails, but narrow enough for good road speed, the Roam is a bike for both worlds of cycling and with 3 sizes in the ladies range, the Roam will suit the riding situations and needs of many riders. With 27 speed gearing the Roam really is a go anywhere bike and could also be considered as a pretty good touring option. Not for hardcore mountain trails. Not for racing along Beach Road. But perfect for that in between riding many of us do. Some off road, some on. Some slower riding but also times when it's fun to go a bit faster. The womens Roam XR is a lightweight, fast, hybrid style bike that has 27 easy to use gears, which will be "just the ticket" for many ladies who occasionally "feel the need for speed", but need to get it from the same bike they ride on a day to day basis. |

Up close the name badges and decalling are again typical 30's, it is a nostalgic bicycle and will be a talking point whenever you take it out with a group of cyclists, or even to the local shops. |

The Townie 3spd ladies comfort bike. |
This is an extremely light, simple bicycle with the minimum number of gears and very low standover height for easy mounting. Very much like the old fashioned style of ladies bicycle, but much lighter. |

Schwinn Jenny Ladies Bike. |
"Love this bike, best bike I've ever owned and worth the price. Rides comfortable and you sit up-right, no hunching over. Steering is easy and manoeuvrable. This is the type of bike I've wanted for years and though [$549] seems like a lot especially during these hard economic times, I went for it. It will pay for itself in time by getting me out there and exercising and improving my health." |
NEW! Latest 2012 Model2012 Giant Trailglide 1 Price is just $499 |
The Giant Trail Glide is a bicycle built for comfort. The bike is based on a mountain bike, but fitted with tyres that have less rolling resistance, so it is easier to push. The front suspension gives a comfortable ride, as it irons out most of the bumps and vibrations. The saddle sits on a supension seat pillar, which has a compact suspension unit built into the post, to remove the shock from any potholes (or gutters if you must). The saddle itself is a delight. It has a spring base supporting a gel cushion, then covered in a well shaped soft fabric to prevent chafing. Giant have gone to a great deal of trouble to ensure your cycling comfort. The bike itself is simple to operate, with a Shimano gear system that changes gear easily and accurately. If you wish it can be simply left in a gear range that you find easy, there is no need to use the gears if preferred. If you prefer to use the gear system, it has a wide range so it will comfortably keep pace with the traffic or climb the steepest of hills, there is a gear to suit vertually any terrain. The brakes have a light action and the bike can be stopped with minimal pressure, it really is a case of using just one or two fingers to stop the bike. The whole bike has been designed with ease of use as a priority. The appearance of the bike is great. The paint finish is called "Diamond Tough" and is the same process used on some BMW cars. It is extremely durable and resists chipping, but also retains its new appearance for several years. It does not get that old look about it after a few months out in the weather. As most of the fittings are aluminium or stainless steel, nether of which will rust, again the bike looks great for longer.Well, there you have it, if you like the sound of this bike, you should come and have a free test ride, to see whether you would like to buy one. |
2011 Giant Via W. |
The "Via" is a new bike to the Giant range for 2011. This range is part-way between the Suede and the flat bar road bike. You'll find that the Via W has been made for comfort, but designed so that you are not sacrificing "rideability" for comfort. This bike is still light and easy to push around, but has been decked out with the comfort features like comfy saddle and upright riding position. It also comes with fenders, a chain guard and a front basket (all matching the colour scheme of the bike of course) and has a low standover frame for easy mounting. It has alloy double wall rims (mean they are reinforced with two walls of alloy rather than one) and dual pivot caliper brakes that are often found on racing bikes. Unlike the Via S, this one has an 8-speed SRAM gear system which does improve the quality of the ride. I think we all know what it's like trying to get up steep hills on a very low gear - it's gets very tiring, very fast! So with some gears on your bike, you can get places faster and with less pedalling. This bike also looks amazing with the black paintwork and the white detailing on the front. |
2011 Giant Suede W. |
The Giant Suede is much the same as the Suede City, with just a couple of small differences. The Suede W features the RST Sofi forks with 50mm travel (compression of the suspension), which makes for a very comfortable and smooth ride. The Shimano Tourney drivetrain in slightly lower quality that the Shimano Nexus gears of the Suede City, but still an excellent system. The Tektro "V" brakes are used because they definitely have a reputation as being reliable and efficient. The hub is a Shimano rear cassette. The gears on this bike are not internal, which does make them more susceptible to damage if the bike is dropped, but also makes them easier to fix. The Suede still comes with the bike rack, fenders and comfort cruiser saddle (made just for women). Plus the frame is a low step thru frame for easy mounting. |
XDS Retro Alloy Ladies Comfort Bike Price is $499
|
This XDS Retro Alloy ladies bike has all the features those seeking a classic styled bike desire. Attractive frame design, comfortable upright positioning and the ability to carry all your gear without you getting wet and muddy. However, and perhaps most importantly is that this gorgeous retro bike is in fact made from light but rugged aluminium, making it noticeably lighter than some of its similarly priced counterparts. This reduction in weight means the bike is more functional to transport, easier to carry up those stairs, and all in all an easier ride. Best of all, you lose none of that classic appeal that makes these bikes so sought after. In addition, you get a simple to use but generous 7 speed gearing system meaning you can cruise along on the flat, but still climb those inclines along the way. Plus, once you get where you are going the genuine cane basket comes out of its secure mount and can be carried with you on those shopping adventures. When you are done, it goes back in easily and you can set off again. If you have been seeking a bike with retro styling, a comfortable upright position but are looking to avoid that unwanted extra weight then this is the bike for you! |
2011 Giant Trailglide 1W. |
Are you looking for a mountain bike but still wanting the comfort of a hybrid? Well, you've landed on the right bike. |
Giant Cypress 2W. |
The Cypress range is definitely our most popular range of hybrid bikes for men and women. The Cypress 2W is the highest-level Cypress for women. Let me explain why this bike sells so well... To start with, the bike has an ALUXX alloy comfort frame which has been specifically designed by Giant for comfort bikes because it absorbs road shock very well. But not only does it do this, the ALUXX frame is very rigid which provides very precision steering and lots of stability. There's nothing worse than going flying along a bike track and finding yourself in a head-on with a tree... this frame definitely will help you avoid that!! |
GT Nomad Sport Women's bike. |
Lovely women's bike. It allows the rider to sit relatively upright if desired, but if you prefer to work harder, then the stem can be adjusted to give a more efficient riding position. |
2011 GT Traffic 3.0w Ladies Flat Bar Road Bike The retail price is $649, on special at $449. |
The GT Traffic 3.0 Women’s hybrid bike represents a new line of thinking for what was previously an arena dominated by upright, comfortable, but more recreationally paced bicycles. The Traffic 3.0 is instead a bike with those fundamental features people look for in a ladies hybrid, but with a bit more strength and speed then can be found in many other hybrid models for the same price. This bike of course comes with all the necessary mounts for racks, mudguards and bottle cages, as well as a provision for disc brakes in the future. Also to be expected is the lightweight alloy frame and fork, making for a lighter than average hybrid with responsive steering for those of you looking to navigate traffic on either the road or the bike paths. But the Traffic 3.0 really comes into its own with a few features not found on many other bikes, and ones that will make you glad you chose the Traffic. Rubber bumpers across the top tube of the bike make leaning your bike against a pole to be locked a far more pleasant experience. In addition, the patented 'Pinhead' skewer systems mean a unique key is used to take your wheels and seat post on and off, making the opportunistic theft of such items a thing of the past (but don't worry if you lose both the keys, replacements are available!). Last but not least are the reflective decals and stickers on the bike, making it just that more visible when you need to be seen. Thus, if you are looking for a bike capable of handling bike paths, bike tracks and the road with ease, all the while making your ride as pleasant and hassle free as possible then the Gt Traffic 3.0 Women’s bike is for you! |
2011 Giant Transend 3W. |
If you're looking for a comfortable hybrid bike to ride around where you can strap on your briefcase or picnic basket, and with mudguards and a comfort saddle, this is the bike for you. The Transend series have a quite a few differences in comparison to the Cypress range. With the Transends, you lose the front suspension and the seat suspension, but instead you get the fenders, rack and super comfy saddle as part of the package. So rather than paying $150 for all these extras with a Cypress, you just get it with the bike. |
NEW! Latest 2012 Model2012 Giant Transend 2 Price is just $449 |
Would you like a bike that is inexpensive, but light, comfortable and easy to use? The Transend 2 could well be the bike for you. The bike is exceptionally light for the $500 price tag. The gears are easy to use, requiring only very light pressure to change and the shift is precise, not at all what you might expect from an inexpensive bike. There is a great gear range, there is a suitable gear for virtually any terrain, whether you are climbing Mount Buffalo or cruising along the bike track at St Kilda, you can easily find a suitable gear. The riding position is upright and very comfortable, not at all suited if you wish to race, but for commuting or recreational riding it is ideal. It has a broad cushy saddle, designed to sit upright (or nearly so) the handlebars are set up so your hands rest on the bars, rather than have to carry your weight. Much easier on the wrists and hands. Because you sit upright you can see everything around you, so its ideal for scenic bike tracks or negotiating city traffic. This bike is fun to use, sure its no high performance machine, but most of us don't require that, a comfortable bike that is light and easy to use is generally more important. Why not come along for a test ride, and find out for yourself? |

GT Nomad Women's Bike. |
The GT Nomad is an inexpensive, yet comfortable ladies hybrid bike. The bike is ideal for cruising bike paths or even riding to work. While the GT Nomad is far from the best ladies hybrid bike available, the Nomad is a comfortable, reliable bike at a great price. It has front and rear suspension, to iron out the bumps. The front suspension is in the forks, a simple unit, that has proven to be reliable and requires minimum maintenance, even when left unused for months at a time, or used on a daily basis (suspension is usually better when used regularly). The rear suspension is in the seat pillar, and has an adjustable spring mechanism that absorbs and dampens out the shock from most road shocks. Both work well, especially combined with a nice plush sprung saddle and gel ergonomic grips. |
GT Traffic 4 Women's Comfort Bike. |
The GT Traffic 4 is a great bike if you want something that is light and easy to push without spending a lot of money. |
2011 Giant Trailglide 2W. |
The Trailglide 2W is essentially the same as the Trailglide 1W... minus the $120. The only differences really are that the saddle is not quite as good quality, and the gear system is not quite as good. But other than that, there really isn't that much difference! |
XDS 6 Speed Steel Ladies Bicycle Price $349 |
This bike is designed to replicate the old traditional ladies bike, complete with guards and rack.I'm sure you will agree, the XDS Ladies bike looks great. It has a classic ladies bike appearance. Even the colours look the part. It is all beautifully colour co-ordinated, with the decals perfectly matching the colour scheme. Up close the name badges and decalling are again typical 30's, it is a nostalgic bicycle and will be a talking point whenever you take it out with a group of cyclists, or even to the local shops. |
XDS Ladies Retro Bike Ivory Price $349 |
Imagine riding a bike that is simple to use, easy to mount and very comfortable. All that and it looks great. Xds produce a huge range of ladies retro bikes. They are a huge Chinese factory producing millions of bikes per year, yet little known in Australia so far. This will change. They produce a range of quality bikes, from the cheaper steel bikes to beautifully finished aluminium bikes. Because the Chinese are used to building this style of bike, the bikes they offer are reliable and very inexpensive, excellent value for money compared to most retro bikes. The bikes come with a simple 7 speed gear system, comfortable leather look saddle, mudguards carrier and a full chainguard to keep your clothes clean and well protected. The front cane basket (yes, genuine cane basket) can be lifted out and carried while shopping, then simply placed back in its carrier for the ride home. Very practical. |
XDS Ladies Retro Bike Blue Price $349 |
Easy to mount, because of the low step through height, this bike really is reminiscent of the ladies bikes of the past. The main difference being that it is also very functional. The brakes work really well. allowing you to stop in an instant. The gear system is really easy to use, sure it only has 7 gears, but most riding doesn't require more than that. If you are planning to go on a 100km bike ride, this is certainly not the ultimate bike, but if you simply want a bike that you can go for a ride with the kids, maybe go to the local shops for bread and milk (if you still drink it), then this bike is an excellent choice. But be prepared to be asked where you got that bike, as it is likely to be a bit of a talking point. The bike itself has a steel frame, aluminium mudguards, aluminium wheels and Shimano gears. Simplicity is the keypoint. The basket lifts out for practicality, the handlebar position allows for a relatively upright riding position, and the gears are very simple to operate. Overall this is a fun bike to ride, and lets be honest, it is a real bargain at the price. |

2011 Giant Cypress 4W. |
The Cypress 4W was designed for women who want to cruise around the bike-paths of Melbourne. The frame is very lightweight (ALUXX formed alloy), it has fast-rolling wheels and an upright riding position. Plus the suspension seat post and cushy saddle add extra comfort to the bike. |
2011 Giant Via S W Single Speed. |
New to the Giant range, the Via S W is a stellar example of a bike that is "no-fuss comfort". As a single speed bike, you don't have to worry about changing gears or fixing gears or anything like that. So it's literally as simple as getting on and starting pedalling.
