Colnago C59 Super Record Road Bike. |
Over the past couple of years sales of the Colnago EPS have rocketed past the numbers of C50's being sold late in its sales life. Although a magnificent frame, sales of the C50 were starting to indicate that perhaps the market was looking for something new. The C50 had long been Colnago's "Golden Child" a bike that could "do everything well", and the recent introduction of the long awaited Colnago C59 will undoubtedly bring the "C" range back to the forefront of the prestige bike market. So many bikes can do well in racing conditions, or for training, or recreational riding, but the C50 excelled under every condition and universally this bike that could do everything required brilliantly, was seen as being perfect. That was the C50. Given perfection as a base, Colnago have put 10 years of development into creating the Colnago C59. As times have changed and further developments in materials and technique have evolved, what we now see as perfection has a new name. The Colnago C59.
For many riders a bike that excels as a sprint bike is less important than a bike that can be taken out with the "mates" for a friendly challenge, or compete in the local club races, maybe do "around the bay in a day", or simply taken for long training rides, while enabling us to return after hours in the saddle feeling comfortable and ready for more. The Colnago C59 is designed to reduce rider fatigue. To do this, yet be capable of aggressively competing in any race, even events like the Tour de France, handling impossible climbs or diving through hairpins on a high speed descent, takes great engineering and design. I guess that's why there was 10 years of development that went into this bike. Improving on perfection doesn't happen overnight.

Following many years of market leadership with frames like the C50, Extreme Power and EPS, and after 10 years of further development Colnago have created the Colnago C59. As times have changed and further developments in materials and technique have evolved, what we see as perfection now has a new name. The Colnago C59.
The Colnago C59 is designed to reduce rider fatigue enabling us to return after hours in the saddle feeling comfortable and ready for more, and yet is still the ultimate performance bike.
Ernesto Colnago insists on retaining the lugged frame, which has proven to give superior ride qualities over the cheaper monocoque construction techniques. Another major benefit is the superior fit possible, due to the greater variety of frame sizes available using lugged construction. The new frame has internal ribbing similar to the EPS, which gives great rigidity in cornering, and under powerful acceleration. Complimenting the new frame are the new square chainstays and seatstays which when combined with the rest of the C59 frame package, ensures maximum rider comfort, combined with unsurpassed performance. The straight blade forks are generally regarded as beneficial for performance and handling, but in actual fact they also absorb a greater amount of vibration, so are very beneficial in improving rider comfort.
Extremely light, predictable, and without flaw, the Colnago C59 will transform your riding experience, particularly so when fitted with the new Shimano Dura Ace Di2 ensemble, which is a substantial step toward the future. This revolutionary electronic gear shifting system will transform your riding experience. It is lighter, requires no expertise to use, is self adjusting, is more precise and when fitted to the C59 which has been built specifically for Di2, is extremely neat in appearance.

Colnago M10 Super Record Road Bike Price is $10,999!
|
The Colnago M10 is a new model introduced late in 2011 as a monocoque frame to share the top spot of the Colnago range together with the traditional tube and lugged C59 Italia. New lamination technology and composite materials used in the manufacturing process of the M10 make it the lightest frame inthe Colnago range. This new process also makes the M10 stiffer than the previous model CX1 also partly due to the increased size of the bottom bracket area. This lateral rigidity results in a higher level of performance under hard acceleration or when climbing out of the saddle.
This increased level of performance is matched at the front end with the C-HS1 tapered steerer-tube and new fork housed within an oversized head-tube. This beefier front end gives the rider a greater degree of confidence when descending a mountain or pushing hard through a corner. Steering precision without any instability issues is reassuring when you are on the edge.
The Colnago M10 is also more vertically compliant than previous models ensuring a more comfort ride which is particularly noticeable on rougher roads or coarse bitumen surfaces. Internal cable routing for clean lines complements the M10’s classic Colnago design, and the frame is available in two versions: One for Di2 electronic groupsests, and one for traditional mechanical groupsets. This allows Colnago to offer the perfect solution to your needs, without sacrificing any reliability, performance or aesthetic values.
Built with Campagnolo Super Record it is a bike for the seriously keen rider. An object to be admired by eye, savoured when ridden and adored for many years. |
Colnago C59 Dura Ace Road Bike Now $10,999!
|
OK! OK! I know the bike in the picture hasn't got Dura Ace on it, and "No" it doesn't come with Colnago carbon wheels either. This picture was chosen simply to emphasise the elegant beauty of Colnago's most recent top end bike. The exquisitely hand built frame is the star here, not the parts bolted to it.
Most riders will have a brand preference when it comes to choosing components, and for a frame of this level a few different ones would be ideally suited. Shimano Dura Ace as described here or the electronic Di2 version of Dura Ace are two possibilities, however if you decide on the Di2, a compatible frame is required as Colnago manufacture versions of the C59 for manual or electronic gear shifting. SRAM Red would be another groupset of an equivalent quality being the premium model that the company produces. Pictured, is a Campagnolo equipped bike and the ideal models to compliment the C59 frame would be the top of the line Super Record or the second in line Record groupsets. We have also fitted Chorus for a couple of customers just to keep the price down a little, which has worked out quite well as Chorus is still a high end 11 speed ensemble with many carbon components just like the Record and Super Record ensembles.
When building a C59, we would usually start with a Colnago handlebar, Colnago head stem and Colnago seat post, then your ensemble of choice and finish it off with wheels of a comparable quality selected by their suitability for your weight and riding conditions. As an example a common selection for a Campagnolo Super Record bike would be Campagnolo Eurus wheels for a heavier rider or Campagnolo Neutron Ultra wheels for a lighter weight rider. However if you should have a different wheelset in mind, we have access to most brands, and can advise on their suitability.
The carbon fibre production in the entire Colnago 2012 product line is paramount in the marketplace. Not just with the raw materials, but throughout the manufacturing process, no corners are cut. This is one of the most important considerations in the final price of a Colnago bicycle or frame. Another aspect is Colnago’s unwillingness to go outside of Cambiago, Italy for designing all aspects of the finest bicycles available. This is why Colnago offers a unique style matched with the most advanced technology. “Made in Italy” on a Colnago product truly means “Made in Italy”. Behind the Colnago signature lies the most meticulous and complex study of every aspect of the bicycle, from the design table to the final product. It is this investment in detail that makes the Colnago logo on a bicycle analogous to the prancing horse on a Ferrari. This a comparison that Colnago welcomes with pride.
Colnago invented modern bicycle racing geometry and has refined it to perfection with handling that is unwaveringly accurate but stable at speed, so a long day in the mountains is a battle against the gradient and your rivals, not against a twitchy bicycle. Frame integrity is a crucial aspect of Colnago design. Colnago frames and forks are tested in the Colnago Lab to withstand impacts far beyond international standards, a fact reinforcing their philosophy regarding weight, as Colnago believes in a minimum frame weight of 1000g. It is simply not worth sacrificing handling, safety and reliability for the negligible advantage of a few grams of static frame weight.
Typically Italian thinking dictates that it’s not enough for a bicycle to be beautiful, it also has to look beautiful. C59 frames are hand painted and, as a result, every one is unique. Famous for some of the most spectacularly beautiful bikes on the road, a Colnago paint finish is an intricate and delicate example of artistic craftsmanship. Except for the head badge, none of the coloured areas or logos on a Colnago frame is a stick-on decal. All are the result of the painstaking skill of the Colnago paint team.
A work of art that gives as much pleasure simply to look at as it does to ride. |
Colnago CX 1 Super Record Road Bike |
The clover leaf shaped tubing has been replaced with polygonal tubing, which Colnago says increases the stiffness, while reducing vibration. Using Colnago's own pre pregnated fabric with high modulus carbon fibre, covered with a 3K finish, the frame not only looks sensational, but performs brilliantly. Although the bike accelerates unbelievably fast, is stiff through corners and when manoeuvring, it climbs hills very well, and manages to maintain a pleasing level of comfort as the vibrations are ironed out and the road noise is all but eliminated. The front triangle of the CX-1 is monocoque, with the rear triangle moulded to it, a combination that allows a greater degree of "tuneability" to alter ride quality and stiffness, than straight monocoques can achieve. This bike maintains the "Colnago Feel", so it a bike likely to delight the most discerning riders. Note. This bike does not come with Bora wheels. |
Colnago CLX 3.0 Ultegra Road Bike Price is $3,999!
|
Now in its third generation, the Colnago CLX 3.0 is proof that the design engineers at Colnago are a motivated group, not content to rest on their laurels.
Although sharing the same name as its predecessors, the CLX and CLX 2.0, the 2012 CLX 3.0 frame is a completely new incarnation. The front triangle is built as a monocoque and has many new features including internal routing of the rear brake cable, a different section C-HS1 headset system and a new fork made to work perfectly in combination with this new headset.
Sharing the same design outlook as the whole Colnago range, the CLX 3.0 has square section chainstays which have been developed to guarantee more stiffness for greater pedalling efficiency. Combine this with carefully thought out tubing profiles, the legendary Colnago geometry, the C-HS1 headset system and the new front fork along with forward thinking Di2 compatability and an outstanding appearance including a colour matched, aero shaped carbon fibre seat post and it's easily recognisable that the latest CLX, the CLX 3.0 is another step forward in the middle range of road bikes.
Catering for a very wide range of riders, the CLX 3.0 is available in 8 different sizes and 4 outstanding colours. 32 options!! Colours are matt black with white, gloss black with yellow, white with black and red with white as pictured here. A fifth option of blue with white will be available in a Shimano Ultegra Di2 version only.
The bike described here is assembled with the latest Shimano 6700 Ultegra components, which are amongst the most reliable available today.
Stunning in appearance and fantastic to ride, the Colnago CLX 3.0 is ideally suited to the more serious recreational rider who finds himself "racing" every time he is out with his mates, or to the club racer who does actually pin a number on each weekend. A bike that is just as happy on a friendly social ride, or when used in anger when the dollars are up for grabs. |
Colnago CLX 2.0 Ultegra. |
Want an Italian creation, but cant justify the price? Well Ernesto Colnago has created the CLX, a monocoque framed race bike with the proven Colnago geometry, taking this from “just another carbon bike” to the ranking of the world leader in handling, at a price that is strongly competitive with the leading Taiwanese brands. This bike is equipped with a Shimano Ultegra group set and fitted with a Shimano wheel-set. |
Colnago Ace Road Bike Price is $2,999!
|
With the growing popularity of mass participation and Gran Fondo events throughout the world, Colnago have introduced the Ace to their extensive line-up. A bike designed specifically to cater for Gran Fondo riders and others who may spend hours in the saddle and require a little added comfort, or those riders who are starting to get serious about road riding, but still value comfort along with performance.
Colnago have many years of experience using carbon fibre as a frame material resulting in a keen understanding of the characteristics of different carbon fibre lay up strategies and the benefits of various tubing shapes when implemented with specific application frame geometry. This knowledge has seen Colnago engineers come up with the Colnago Ace, a frame crafted as a carbon fibre monocoque construction with round frame tubing and square secton chain stays, built to a geometric pattern designed to enhance rider comfort. The seating position with minimal back arching eliminates many of the usual causes of discomfort when cycling continually for long periods. Sure, tired legs and aching muscles will still occur, but as a by product of exertion this is a pain to be relished as proof that you have "had a go".
Sensibly assembled with compact cranks, the Colnago Ace has the perfect gearing for the recreational and Gran Fondo rider, with ratios to get you up and over some tough hills even after a few hours on the road. Riders in the inaugural Amy's Gran Fondo based out of Lorne on The Great Ocean Road will testify that the climb of Benwerrin is a tough way to end the day, and that it's a challenge more comfortably accomplished when the gearing is applicable to the gradient and the fitness and fatigue level of the rider, who in all probability isn't a professional athlete in his 20's. Made for the job, if the Colnago Ace doesn't get you there, the only solution is a few more training rides.
With a Shimano 105 20 speed gear system and smooth rolling Shimano wheels, the Colnago Ace is a wonderful overall package that will please both at the time of purchase and for many years to come whenever the realisation occurs that the only discomfort being experienced is from pushing on the pedals. |
