Schwinn Le Tour Road Bike. Relatively new to the Australian market, is the Schwinn Le Tour road bike range. This bike is ideal for someone new to a road bike, or on a limited budget. The bike is lightweight, quite fast and has good reliable equipment. It is certainly not a race bike, but that is not the market it is designed for.
The basis of the bike is a light aluminium frame, set up to suit a recreational rider, rather than a racer. The riding position is relatively relaxed compared to a race bike. Not a major difference, just a little reach down to the handlebars, so that it is easier on your back and neck, and will be comfortable if you end up riding for several hours.
The gear range again, is suited to recreational riding, it has a triple crank on the front, in case you encounter inclines that would otherwise require a huge effort to climb. With the triple crank, you can drop down to the low range and just idle your way up the incline.
The gears are Shimano, and while not race standard, they work well, the gear change has a light action, and operates well. There are 24 gears, so it has a considerable range, more than adequate for most riders.
The wheels have strong double wall rims, and both wheels have quick release mechanism for easy removal, or transport. The tyres are a little wider than a race bike to better grip and added comfort. Speaking of comfort, it also has more forgiving saddle than many of the race bikes. The handlebars have gel tape to provide additional comfort. Overall a great bike for the money. |
